General recovery closer up 2

You may be able to access counselling at no cost to you via your GP. Your GP will be able to advise you on what is available to you.

Since April 2012, patients have more choice about which health services they can use within the NHS and can choose from a range of providers all of whom meet NHS standards and quality requirements.

Hertfordshire

If you are over 16, you can access our counselling service at no cost to you via your GP using a scheme called “AQP” or Any Qualified Provider in most Hertfordshire areas, which gives you up to 8 sessions of 50 minutes with a highly experienced and accredited counsellor.

As a result of the scheme, you may be able to choose a service based on importance to you, whether that’s something closer to home, with a shorter waiting list or times that suit you.

The Counselling Foundation is a major accredited AQP provider of primary care psychological therapies in Hertfordshire. We have a wide availability of times and locations across the county in our own centres (St Albans, Stevenage and Broxbourne) and GP practices and other settings in Welwyn Garden City, Hatfield, Boreham Wood and Radlett.

The appointments include Saturdays and evenings appointments and in most centres we can accommodate shift patterns. We ask our clients when and where they would like to be seen before arranging their appointments.

If you choose us as your AQP Provider please talk to your GP. If your doctor agrees that counselling is suitable for you please ask them to send a referral to The Counselling Foundation.

A notice for our NHS counselling patients in Luton

(If you have been referred to our short term counselling service by ELFT)

Dear Luton NHS Counselling Patient,

If you have been referred to us for NHS counselling, please be aware that, due to high demand for this service, you will be on the waiting list before we are able to offer you an appointment, which we currently estimate is between 10 – 16 weeks.

If you require more immediate counselling support you have the option to self refer to The Counselling Foundation open ended service, please call 01582 732 450 or visit our Luton Centre page. Please note that the open ended counselling is a paid for service that is low cost, we ask patients to pay what they can afford. (The NHS service is free for patients). Other counselling services in Luton are also available.

Thank you for your ongoing patience and we are working as hard as we can to ensure that patients are seen as soon as is possible within the scope of this contract with the NHS.
