personal counselling

The Counselling Foundation –  a major Any Qualified Provider  (AQP) of counselling in Hertfordshire – won a further three year contract in October 2016.

Patients seeking a referral for counselling under this service should speak to their GP about how they are feeling and what treatment options are available to them. If a GP and patient choose counselling with the Foundation, the GP will make a referral to us.

For Herts Valley Practices the referral pathway is through the DXS system. If this is not available please send via:

foundationstalbans@nhs.net  or

Fax: 0844 7703999

For East and North Herts practices, please make a referral for counselling via Single Point of Access.

We have been a trusted partner of the NHS and GP surgeries in Hertforshire and Bedfordshire over the past nine years delivering high quality and easy to access short term counselling services. The wide network of counsellors covers specialities including bereavement, couples, trauma and LGBT.

We follow the IAPT principles of making counselling as accessible as possible to our community and welcome you to refer your patients to our counselling service. Under this contract we offer up to 8 sessions of 50 minutes with a highly experienced accredited and IAPT trained counsellor. We have a wide availability of times and locations across the county in our own centres and in counsellors’ own settings and GP practicesand deliver over 10,000 such sessions a year.

Ours locations include:

Herts Valleys: St Albans, Harpenden, Chorleywood, Little Bushey, Watford and Borehamwood.

E&NH: Stevenage, Hitchin, Letchworth, Broxbourne, Ware, Hertford, Hoddesdon, Welwyn Garden City, Hatfield and Potters Bar.

We ask our clients when and where they would like to be seen before arranging their appointments.

Our clients have supported our work with comments such as:

“Thank you, I’ve got me back!”

“Really helped me feel like myself again.”

“I didn’t think counselling was for me. Now I’ve finished I wish I had undergone sessions sooner.”

“It has certainly helped me to understand what I can do for myself first.”

“It has been good to talk to someone each week who just gets it”

“I have a lot of issues and could not have been easy to counsel – (name) was very pleasant and listened to all my problems. Thank you.”
