A course to boost social confidence will be launched in the New Year by The Counselling Foundation with the support of St Albans City and District Council.
Helping those struggling with anxiety to overcome their fears, the Saturday morning funded course is a perfect solution and is particularly relevant at this time of year with the many festive and New Year celebrations.
A lack of confidence can impact on our lives in many ways, including feeling anxious at parties and social gatherings. Some of us can be highly successful in life but still struggle with anxiety before public speaking events or a meeting with their manager.
Others might want more from their personal relationships but feel that they are not ‘good enough’ to deserve it. There are some who might feel isolated because their anxiety and low self-esteem do not allow them to meet new friends.
Spread across seven weekends for just a £10 administration fee the course will explore the causes of anxiety and how it is possible to feel comfortable within individual relationships but find a group experience quite daunting.
Grant and Contract Manager at the Foundation, Judy Mallinson, said she was excited about the new Saturday morning series. “We have run similar courses before and the people attending benefitted so much they did not want them to end”.
Course facilitator, Ms Manfrinati who ran a highly popular confidence course last year, said that a lack of confidence can impact on our lives in many different ways. “For example, some people might feel stuck in their job because their low confidence does not allow them to take a risk and apply for a better positions” She said.
Ms Manfrinati will arrange for a meeting with individual applicants before the sessions begin, she recognises that it is difficult for people to come forward to apply for any course – it’s about confidence after all – “sometimes it is just a matter of getting started”.
The Social Confidence course called “Boost” will start on Saturday 20 January 10am-12pm. The Foundation welcomes applications from anyone over 18 and living in St Albans and District.
The Counselling Foundation runs many courses including professional counselling training in psychodynamic counselling and offers affordable counselling and contract counselling services.
